EchoHouse, the award-winning, full-service creative marketing agency and their organising partners Pulse Creatives have pulled off yet another awe-inspiring SMW Accra. This was after a successful debut in 2017 which earned EchoHouse and its organising partners high commendations from all including the President of the Republic, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
SMW Accra 2018 was held from 10th – 14th September 2018, with speakers from around the world and Ghana. The 5-day event held under the theme “CLOSER”, drew parallels, contrasts, and sort to understand how the growing social media and technological changes are affecting individuals, society and brands and how in all of it, brands and individuals can capitalise on those changes for their good.
This year’s event took a slightly distinctive approach, allowing partnerships, calling for event organisers and a complete restructure of the event and sessions, thus hosting sessions at multiple venues in and out of the Accra Mall both concurrently and at different times.
This exploration allowed for a lot more sessions compared to the 1st year. Some of the partners for the event were Ghana Climate and Innovations Centre (GCIC), Shatta Wale for his Reign album art unveiling – a first of its kind, Pentagon SRC, Workshed, Mukase Chic, Telande, Harmattan Rain, Paint Boire, Blogging Ghana & Defia Arts.
There was a weeklong art exhibition by Defia Arts, coding class by Vodafone Ghana, Yoga classes by FiWitAndi, Dance classes with Dancegod Lloyd, a magic mirror photo experience by Ghandour, among others.
SMW Accra was packed with so many amazing things and master classes – there was something for all who attended to experience or learn. It was a year of experiential, partnership and a great platform for freelancers.
There were astounding speakers like Adrian Ciesielski from Twitter Africa reps Ad Dynamo, Steve Babaeko, Adebola Williams, Abimbola Craig of popular YouTube series “Skinny Girl In Transit”, multiple award winning dj – DJ Vyrusky, the Head of Products & Services at Vodafone Ghana, Linda Okondu Victor Bannerman-Chedid, Citi FM’s Mawuli Tsikata, PR guru Anne Sackey and many more.
Some of the most memorable sessions were the BBC Pidgin Minute Workshop, Goldfish Effect – Effective Consumer Engagement In 5 Seconds, Twitter Master Class, Rise of the New Media, Instagram Tribe Fashion Show, The Cloud Session, Social Media to the Rescue, Paint Boire, The Instagram Tribe Fashion Show and the Blogging and Social Media Awards. All the other sessions were extremely exciting and insightful with the solid line-up of speakers.
The continuous growth of SMW Accra leaves us to only expect an even bigger event in 2019.
